I would like to preface this review with the fact that I am not a democrat nor a republican.

If you manage to read news sources other than Fox News or CNN (might I recommend digg.com or rawstory.com?) and got bored of reading about Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan. You might notice that our nation is at war. Specifically we are at war with a country that could not have hurt us much even if they wanted to. Not only that, we started another war. The war on Terror. Who is this Terror that we need to fight? Where is he? When will the war be over? I’m guessing it will finish right about the time we finish the War on Drugs. I heard HE lives in L.A. and we’re going to get him soon. You have been witness to the Patriot Act and the authorization of secret warantless wiretapping on american citizens. The REAL ID act. “Papers, please.” Our country now tortures with executive approval. Our most recent execute order states that anyone interferring with the rebuilding of Iraq can be jailed and have their assets taken. So we’ve lost a bit of due process there. But that’s not the first time, what happens if our executive branch lists you as an enemy combatant? What else do we have… oh yeah… employees of companies writing legislation for the committees that are supposed to protect the people from those companies. Excessive cronyism. And Dick Cheney shot a guy while hunting.

I went off on a tangent there. Al Gore talks about these kinds of issues in his book, but they are not profound insights by any means unless you have been living in a cave attached to Bill O’Reilly.

If there are any take aways from this book it would be to do something. Write a blog. Join a group like MoveOn.org or RightMarch.com. Write a letter to your congressmen. And for heaven’s sake stop watching so much TV. At least cut broadcast TV out. You can watch movies & tv shows off from netflix.com if you need to. The endless propaganda pushed out by FOX & CNN is destorying our national discourse. Educate yourself on the issues and beware of propaganda.
